Seoul Current is an independent publication for readers who care about Korean culture but should not need fluent Korean to understand the news.

We translate context, not just words

A direct translation can miss whether an agency statement is a denial, a pause, a negotiation or no comment. We compare the summary circulating in English with the Korean source and explain where the two diverge. When a Korean word carries a commitment that English flattens — or the reverse — that is usually the story.

We are not a fan account

We can be enthusiastic without becoming promotional. Coverage is selected for relevance, not fandom pressure, and we do not take direction from artists, agencies, broadcasters or ticketing platforms. Nobody gets to review an article before it publishes.

How a story gets made

Every article starts from a primary Korean source: an agency notice, a Weverse or fancafe post, a government or venue page, a court or ministry filing, or a named report from an established Korean outlet. We read the original, not a translation of it. We then label the story as Confirmed, Reported or Context, list every source we used with the date we checked it, and publish that ledger at the bottom of the article so you can retrace our steps.

What we will not do

We do not publish claims we cannot trace to a named source. We do not report on the private lives, relationships, health or families of artists. We do not aggregate anonymous social media posts into a story. We do not run sponsored articles or affiliate links inside our reporting, and advertisers have no say in what we cover.

Who runs this

Seoul Current is edited in Seoul, South Korea by a small independent desk. It is not owned by, funded by or affiliated with any entertainment company, agency, broadcaster, streaming service or ticketing platform, and it takes no payment for coverage. The site may be supported by third-party display advertising served by Google when ad serving is available; advertising is kept separate from editorial decisions. Editorial responsibility for everything published here rests with the Seoul Current desk.

Corrections and contact

We correct errors of fact regardless of who reports them, and we note the change in the update date at the top of the article. Corrections, rights requests and story tips all reach us at [email protected]. See the contact page for how each is handled.

Images and AI

We use original artwork, Creative Commons material credited with its licence, and images we are entitled to publish. Some editorial illustrations are AI-assisted; those are labelled in the caption every time. We do not generate images that depict real people, and we do not use AI to write our reporting.
